NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The most important things we heard from Brian Callahan and Ran Carthon the day before Titans training camp practices begin.
Will Levis: After OTAs and minicamp while the team had its longest break of the offseason, Levis had time off but also arranged time in Cabo that also included DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, Chig Okonkwo, Josh Whyle and Tyjae Spears, per Joe Rexrode.
Then there were some regular gatherings at Vanderbilt.
“That’s what your quarterback should be doing. You should have a guy that’s going to take a leadership role with the team, and make sure that he’s bringing guys with him. That’s a big part of leadership, bringing people along with you. And I thought he’s done a fantastic job of setting the tone for those guys on offense and putting the necessary work in to have a chance to be successful and being able to have a
leadership presence probably for the first time since he was in college. I’m excited about that, I think guys responded well to it.”
What’s the expectation for Levis as things kick off and ramp up for the team starting Wednesday?
“Will is in a really good place, I’m excited about what he’s going to play like, I’m excited to see it,” he said. “It’s more just about playing on time. It’s getting that timing back. The accuracy, timing and decision-making are sort of the three things that you look for, especially early on and try to get that developed as quickly as possible and kind of get back into the flow. So those will be what I am looking for.
Treylon Burks: The first-rounder from 2022 certainly made a strong offseason impression on team brass. Carthon said the receiver sent him a shirtless picture during the break at one point to show off his new, more sculpted physique.
“I think Treylon’s really grown up,” Carthon said. “…He really took to heart the conversation that he had with myself and coach Cally and he’s completely bought in. I messaged with him throughout the offseason. I think he’s in a really good spot.”
Carl Lawson: The former Bengal and Jet is probably the best veteran pass rusher available. I asked Callahan if Lawson is healthy and a possible addition.
“I don’t know if he is (healthy) to be honest,” he said. “I was with Carl in Cincinnati. Good player, good rusher. I’m not sure where he’s at for the moment.”
In terms of making additions, both Callahan and Carthon indicated the roster is fluid. Anthony Robinson talked about assessing position groups as camp moves along and Carthon spoke of waiver claims and trade possibilities as well as the possibility of signing guys still available.
Derrick Henry deal: I asked Ran Carthon if he was offered a fourth-round pick that could have turned into a third-rounder by Baltimore, as was recently reported by The Athletic in a story about Henry.
“No I wasn’t,” he said with a laugh. “I don’t know where that came from, that’s not my concern. We had multiple teams call about Derrick and offer something that wasn’t worth taking or wasn’t worth even taking and I communicated that to Derrick during that time.
Injuries: Colton Dowell, who tore an ACL on special teams late in the season, is on the physically unable to perform list, and Nicholas Petit-Frere is on active-PUP after summer clean up surgery on a knee.
T’Vondre Sweat is good to go as is Ryan Stonehouse.
Carthon said the final stage of rehab for Stonehouse requires him to be active is to deal with the pressure, not contact, coming at him.

L’Jarius Sneed will have his own special management plan.

Preseason play-time: Expect to see starters play in all three preseason games, though they will probably play the least after the joint practices against the Seahawks for Game Two.
