NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Titans coaches were able to put Cam Ward through some paces Friday in Miami as they returned for a private workout with the prospective No. 1 pick.
Brian Callahan, Nick Holz and Bo Hardigree interacted with Ward, who worked with some Miami teammates for a contingent that again included the Titans' front office Big Four -- Chad Brinker, Mike Borgonzi, Reggie McKenzie and Dave Ziegler.
All seven of those Titans' coaches and executives were in Miami Monday for the Hurricane's pro day. That workout was in the school's indoor facility. This was on an outdoor practice field.
Indications are the Titans thought Ward threw the ball well and did great.
Receivers Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George, tight end Elijah Arroyo and one other Hurricane teammates aided Ward for about an hour of work, during which there was not a great deal of running. Arroyo didn't run at all. The pre- and post-workout conversations may have lasted an additional hour.
Private workouts are a more favorable environment for a team. The Titans interacted with him on a level they had not before. I don't know how long they were on the field together but indications are the team felt like things went great.
Players in a position to be selected at the top of a draft don't always agree to do the additional work with their resume on tape, combine measurements recorded and a pro day workout on record.
There is always the longshot possibility of injury and not as much to be gained by good work as lost with any kind of stumble as unlikely, as one may be.
While Ward is the presumed No. 1 pick if the Titans stay put, their due diligence will include Shedeur Sanders' pro day on April 4 and a private workout on April 9.
