NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- After losing Chance Campbell to a torn ACL, the Titans moved quickly to upgrade at inside linebacker, trading for Ernest Jones from the Rams.
Multiple reports had the deal. I was first with the compensation: The Titans get Jones and a sixth from the Rams in exchange for a fifth-round pick. Those picks are in 2026 and the Ram's sixth-rounder coming to Nashville is conditional.
Jones was a third-rounder in 2021 out of South Carolina and LA let it be known recently he was being shopped. [Unlocked]
While the Titans will play a lot of nickel and dime that will take an inside linebacker off the field, Jones with Kenneth Murray in base is an upgrade over Jack Gibens, who's smart but not fast enough to get where he needs to be.
"I have always liked Jones," former Titans scout and PK.com contributor Blake Beddingfield said. "I'm surprised he was traded. He's a solid athlete and a good tackle-to-tackle player. His speed isn’t top-level, but he's an instinctive player who can replace Gibbens and and play special teams."
Jones started 33 games and played in 47 in three seasons, with three interceptions, 12 passes defensed and 5.5 sacks.
