Cam Ward's accuracy remains a work in progress, Calvin Ridley looks ahead of schedule in his recovery and Jermaine Johnson made an early impression at Titans OTA practice.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Three things of note that I took in from the Titans practice session on Monday, which was open to the media but came with no interviews.

Check out my reels on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube for more practice highlights.

Cam Ward’s accuracy

He hasn’t shown the magical improvement you’d like to see, but I think it was pretty unlikely to expect him to jump into OTAs and be significantly better

Terry McCormick’s count had him at eight of 17 with a TD and a pick. That included a drop and several throwaways. I think there was an ingredient of a bad day.

But look, it remains an issue.

It’s hard for a QB to improve his accuracy. But Ward did go from 57.6 percent in his first nine games as a rookie to 62.4 percent in his final eight, with virtually the same yards per attempt. That’s a notable improvement.

Right now, he’s learning a new offense with more option routes. I’ve not seen plays where it seems confusion on those has been the culprit, but it could be a factor.

I still think we should buy into a slow-growth mentality. He has been better in the other practices we’ve seen. Don’t sound any alarms.

Not all incompletions are equal: In the red zone, Ward threw a very good ball for Elic Ayomanor, who was moving left to right and coming back a bit to the right front pylon. Ayomanor failed to get his second foot down and turned what could have been a TD into an incompletion.

Still, the consistency theme with Ward is a theme for a reason, and while one OTA practice in June doesn’t tell us a lot, we know he needs to be better than he was in this one.

It’s the third we’ve seen and the first where Mitch Trubisky was present. He clearly has more command of the offense than Will Levis and Hendon Hooker was cut down to a minimal role. Trubisky hit 13 of 15 with a nice red-zone TD to Bryce Oliver, who did a good Carnell Tate impersonation going up and showing strong hands against Latrell McCutchin.

Hello Jermaine Johnson

We also saw Jermaine Johnson for the first time. It’s hard to really get a gauge of guys in the trenches at these sorts of practices, with no pads and no major contact allowed.

But he looked strong and influential.

On one rez zone play where Ward was rolling right, Johnson was with him and affected the QB’s throw to Ayomanor in the end zone, a ball that was too high for the receiver to handle.

Calvin Ridley’s progress

Calvin Ridley’s coming back from a broken leg, and we have not seen him work in team periods.

But he looks better than I imagined he would or could at this stage, doing what he’s doing.

I always urge caution about getting excited about reps on air. But in this one his move after getting off the line makes it almost look as if I messed with the slo-motion function on my camera, which I did not.

There is a long way between that and effective play on opening day. But for right now, I imagine the team feels good about where he is.
