Andrew LuckNASHVILLE, Tenn. – In the span of four seasons, the Titans went from the No, 1 seed in the AFC to the No. 1 pick in the draft.

That’s a pretty precipitous fall and it left me wondering how common or uncommon such a plummet is.

So I dug in to see the last time an NFL team went from such a high to such a low.

The Titans went from 12-5 in 2021 to 7-10 to 6-11 to 3-11, a steady decline.

The 2013 Texans had a much harder fall, going 2-14 after 12-4 and the third seed, 10-6 and the third seed and 4-12. Houston QB Matt Schaub only started eight games and threw 14 interceptions and 10 touchdowns, paving the way for Jadeveon Clowney.

But we have to turn to the 2012 Colts for a fall equal to the Titans.

Indianapolis did it a year faster than the Titans have. The Colts were 14-2 in 2009 and as the No, 1 seed, beat the Ravens and Jets to win the AFC before losing to New Orleans in Super Bowl XLIV.

They were 10-6 and a third seed in 2010. And in 2011, with major quarterback troubles because of Peyton Manning’s neck injury, they went 2-14 and secured the No. 1 draft position, bringing Andrew Luck to Indianapolis.
