The first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Bryce Young, has officially been benched by the hapless Carolina Panthers after an 0-2 start. The Panthers, of course, famously traded two first-round picks (one of which turned into the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 draft), two second-round picks, and a fourth-rounder to the Bears in exchange for the opportunity to take Young. It’s stunning to see the team bail on him after just 17 starts despite his consistently poor performances over that time frame.
I bring up Young to start this piece because some Titans fans want to see Brian Callahan do the same with Will Levis after an 0-2 start with both games featuring a mind-numbingly poor decision from Levis that resulted in a turnover. However,
that is not and should not be happening in Tennessee. Levis, for all of his faults (and we’ll get to those, don’t worry), has been significantly better than Young through a season and two games while dealing with similarly dire circumstances around him.
